Music Monday: Cursor Miner
December 7th 2009

Posted under music & video

As promised, here’s a new post on some music you might not know about. Today, I want to introduce Cursor Miner. Considering how difficult it was for me to purchase his cds, I wouldn’t say he’s the most popular DJ out there… but his music should definitely be played more often.

I first discovered his music from a flash video I randomly came upon one day. It was extremely catchy and I would listen to it on repeat. Eventually I bought his cd, and started listening to that over and over. He releases some mixes now and then on his website [ed: seems his website no longer exists.. unless he's entered the realm of colon cleansing... check out his myspace page instead], and they usually find their way in my playlist. I’m going to post two songs by him today; the first being the original flash video I saw, and the second a song from one of his cds. (no video though) Enjoy!

Music Monday: Bonus!
November 30th 2009

Posted under music & video

Last month, I had a chance to go check out the Spasm Festival. It is mainly a movie festival where they play (mostly) Quebec horror and genre films. I had never gone in the past, which is curious since I love Fantasia so much. This year, I grabbed some friends and went to see the Quebec trash montage, properly called “Total Crap 6″, and it was awesome. There were so many snippets of old tv shows and movies that were so horrible that we couldn’t stop laughing. The intro video they picked is not from Quebec, but it was pretty funny, so I decided to add it as a bonus to Music Monday. It is a video from Christian rock/ska band “Sonseed”. From now when I hear this song, I want to go find some old Quebec videos… hmm.. watch the next post. ;)

Music Monday
November 30th 2009

Posted under music & video

I have not been very consistent lately on the blog. I have been rather busy and I have neglected my duties as a web information peon. In order to try to post on a more regular basis, I have decided to do a “Music Monday” post. Every Monday, I will (try) to write a blog entry about a band or song that I like. My taste in music is somewhat different than the “club scene norm”, so hopefully I will be introducing some new bands to some of you.

Today, I want to introduce you to the Penguin Café Orchestra. They have been around for a while, but I have only started listening to them recently. I heard one of their songs on a Café Del Mar album, and I fell in love. Something feels slightly off when you listen to them, but it is that touch of individuality that makes them interesting. You probably heard one of their most popular songs on “Napoleon Dynamite” near the end of the film. It is the same song that I heard on the Café Del Mar album, and it is called “Music For A Found Harmonium”.

My only gripe with that live rendition is the constant humming of the (I’m guessing) harmonium. It is not as loud in the record studio version. Another song I quite like is “Perpetuum Mobile”, though it is probably not as known.

I think from those two samples you can get a clear idea as to why I enjoy their music so much. I will try to keep this schedule and talk about more music next week.

A cause des garçons

Have you heard of Tecktonik? It is a type of dancing that emerged a few years ago from France. Check out what it looks like with this remixed Yelle song (which is stuck in my head). Could this be the future of dancing? Survey says… it better! :D

Awesome Zune Commercial
April 6th 2009

Posted under awesome & music & video

I don’t own a Zune, nor do I plan on purchasing one, but their commercial is pretty awesome! It features puppet zombies and one of my favourite songs, “Fancy Footwork” by Montreal duo Chromeo. I consider that a winning combination!

UPDATE: It was removed from Youtube ONE DAY after I post it. Sheesh. You can download the video here. I highly recommend that you check it out!!

Satisfaction
October 8th 2008

Posted under music & video

I found this clip for Benny Benassi’s song “Satisfaction”. I was used to another one with contained bikini clad girls messing around with various power tools (the jiggle! so much jiggling!), but I find this one so much superior. Sure it has no cleavage or jiggly flesh, but the first time I saw it, I was creeped out. It felt like I was watching the birth of four happy zombies. Naturally, zombies > jiggly flesh.. unless of course you have hot zombie ladies! At a carwash! With a vocoder!! Damn! Maybe there could be a zombie carwash with a vocoder after the break? Only the brave should venture…

Take on me, literally
October 8th 2008

Posted under funny & music & video

The original clip for “Take on me” by A-Ha was something quite impressive to watch, especially considering it came from the 80’s. Using rotoscoping (one of my favourite animation techniques), and some other animation tricks, it really looked like a comic book coming alive. This parody keeps the video intact, but changes the lyrics to be as literal as possible.

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog
August 1st 2008

Posted under awesome & funny & movies & music & video

This is probably old news to most of you, but I just discovered Dr. Horrible yesterday. I have to share it with everybody since it is so bloody awesome! It is a short online video directed by Joss Whedon and has to do with Dr. Horrible (Neil Patrick Harris), an evil doctor who wants to join the big leagues. He’s also trying to win over the woman he loves (Felicia Day), but he’s constantly blocked by his nemesis, Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion). Oh, did I mention the entire thing is a musical?

I have embedded the video below, but I don’t think it will last very long, since it is also available for purchase on iTunes. Check it out while you still can!

Update: Seems that non-Americans have been blocked from viewing the movie. Even us Canadians :(

I know this is old, but I just saw it and I find it cute. It is another AMV, this time featuring Osaka from Azumanga Daioh. Since that show is one of my favourite animés, I figured I had a duty to share it here. To those who wonder where I get Orange Cat from, check out this video.

At the River
June 8th 2008

This is my second post dedicated to Groove Armada. I still don’t know too much about these guys, but they have some really good tunes. This one, entitled “At the River” is one of my favourites. It is very chill and relaxes me everytime I listen to it. It helped me out numerous times when I was stressed out and working late.

Unfortunately, I can’t embed the official video (blame Columbia Records UK), but here is a link to it.

Here is a picture of the cd cover with the song:
