I got to see the premiere of the movie “Knocked Up” today. What an awesome movie. If you liked “The Forty Year Old Virgin”, you will love this. “Knocked Up” is almost the next step after 40 Year Old Virgin, since it deals with what comes after sex, or more precisely, unsafe sex! The entire movie rotates around the two main characters who get have a one night stand and she becomes pregnant. Deciding to keep the baby, they try to work their differences and be together. Since they are two different people, it is not an easy task, and that is part of where all the laughs come from. I highly reccomend seeing this movie, especially with your significant other. Below is a deleted scene from the movie, and will give you a good idea of what to expect from the movie.
I got some free tickets to the premiere to the movie Severance. When I first saw the poster for this movie, I knew I had to see it. I’m a fan of horror movies, and movies in general that are just different from the norm (thus my fascination with the Fantasia Film Festival), so it immediately peaked my attention. The fact that the poster mentioned that it was a must see film for the fans of “Shaun of the Dead” and “An American Werewolf in London” sealed my thoughts on the movie. After having watched the film, I wish the poster had not mentioned that. Both movies are awesome and I was expecting something big from Severance. Don’t get me wrong, Severance is a good movie, but I just expected a lot more.
In general, Severance deals with a group of coworkers going to a resort in eastern Europe for a weekend of team building. When a tree blocks their path, their bus driver does not want to take a side route and leaves them there. They decide to walk the rest of the way and find a shack which is nothing like how the resort was described. Stuff happens, which I will not go in detail, and people die. There are no monsters in this story, so the movie feels quite realistic. It was properly filmed, so we don’t have that annoying shaky cam feel to it.
At one point in the movie, one girl passed out in the theater and the cinema was forced to pause the movie so that she could leave. It was during a gory scene, but it had humorous elements to it, so it did not bother me, nor the friends I was with. That is probably the movie’s best feature; the funny bits across the film. The comparisons to the two previous movies are due to the fact that they are all horror comedies. You will laugh in this movie, and some scenes are absolutely hilarious. I think that if the movie did not have this comedic moments, it would not stand out and would just be another cookie cutter horror film.
So with that said, do I recommend people to go see it? If you like horror films, especially the two movies Severance was compared to, you should watch it. Don’t expect it to live up to Shaun and American Werewolf though or you will be disappointed. If you haven`t seen either of those two movies, think of it as a mixture of two more recent movies, “Hostel” and “Wilderness”, sprinkled with humor all throughout, and you have a good idea what to expect out of Severance.
I rate it 3.5/5.

I went to see the Mountain Equipment Coop store at the Marché Centrale in Montreal. I hate driving to stores in Montreal because of the bad parking options, but I was told that the store had plenty of parking. My buddy Nathan was to meet me there.
To start things off I encountered traffic going there (which is common here), so I got there later than expected. When I reached the area, I was directed in so many diffferent directions that I was wondering if I would ever find the place. Once found, I encountered an urban nightmare. Too many cars with not enough parking. I think I spent about as much time in the parking lot(s) than in the actual store. It was pretty bad.
Nathan and I both agreed that we probably may never return there, just because it was hell to get there. Perhaps it would be better on a slower day, or on a weeknight, but for a rainy Sunday afternoon it was slow painful torture.
On the plus side, I bought two Turtle Led lights for my bike. One for the front and one for the rear. Next time I have to ride at night, I’ll actually be able to see something!
